چکیده

An interferometric position sensor was developed using the concept of sampling a standing wave. Interference of a standing wave created in front of a plane mirror can be detected by thin, partly transparent sensors based on amorphous silicon. The optical thickness of the absorption layer is thinner than the wavelength l of the incident light. Detection of minima and maxima of the standing wave can be used to determine the relative displacement of the plane mirror and the detector. For determination of bidirectional fringe counting, two detectors with a certain phase shift were introduced into the standing wave. An integrated solution of two stacked n-i-p diodes and a phase shifter will be presented. The operation principle of the device will be demonstrated by measured Lissajous figures. © 2003 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1590732#

In this paper a method for digitally recording four quarter-reference-wave-holograms (by CCD) in a Mach-Zehnder interferometer setup, and reconstructing the object wave-front by numerical method is presented. The terms of direct transmission, auto-correlation and conjugate wave in the four wave reconstruction are cancelled out and only one original object wave is left after overlapping. Reconst...

Atom Michelson interferometer on a chip using a Bose-Einstein condensate.

An atom Michelson interferometer is implemented on an "atom chip." The chip uses lithographically patterned conductors and external magnetic fields to produce and guide a Bose-Einstein condensate. Splitting, reflecting, and recombining of condensate atoms are achieved by a standing-wave light field having a wave vector aligned along the atom waveguide. A differential phase shift between the two...

Confinement effects in a guided-wave interferometer with millimeter-scale arm separation

Guided-wave atom interferometers measure interference effects using atoms held in a confining potential. In one common implementation, the confinement is primarily two-dimensional, and the atoms move along the nearly free dimension under the influence of an off-resonant standing wave laser beam. In this configuration, residual confinement along the nominally free axis can introduce a phase grad...

Optical polarizabilities of large molecules measured in near-field interferometry

We discuss a novel application of matter wave interferometry to characterize the scalar optical polarizability of molecules at 532nm. The interferometer presented here consists of two material absorptive gratings and one central optical phase grating. The interaction of the molecules with the standing light wave is determined by the optical dipole force and is therefore directly dependent on th...

Observation of saturation of fidelity decay with an atom interferometer.

We use an atom interferometer to investigate the dynamics of matter waves in a periodically pulsed optical standing wave: an atom optics realization of the quantum kicked rotor that exhibits chaotic classical dynamics. We experimentally show that a measure of the coherence between the interferometer diffraction orders can revive after a quick initial loss, and can approach a finite asymptote as...
